PhoneRig - Terms of Service

PhoneRig turns a spare Android phone into a personal self-hosted server. By using the PhoneRig app or any address service we provide, you agree to these terms. In short: your server and its content are yours - you agree to keep what you host legal, and we can stop routing traffic to anything that isn't.
Who we are
PhoneRig is an independent app developed by a sole developer. Contact: support@phonerig.app. Our privacy policy explains the limited data we handle.
What PhoneRig is
The app runs a web server and related tools on your phone. Everything you
host lives on your device, not with us. Separately and optionally, we provide an
address service: a free name.phonerig.app address or a
managed custom domain, with traffic routed to your phone through Cloudflare's
network. These terms cover both the app and that address service.
Your content is your responsibility
You are the publisher and host of whatever your server serves - pages you build, apps you install (for example WordPress), files you share, and anything other people add to services you choose to run. You are responsible for having the rights to that content and for its legality where you live and where you serve it. No person here monitors, reads or reviews what you host, and we only look at a page when someone reports it to us or a law requires it; that is a privacy promise, not an endorsement. One automated check is the exception: if you use one of our addresses, once a day our broker requests your front page to see whether it is still answering, and records the status code, the page's size, a one-way hash of it, how long it took and the page title. Nothing else from the page is kept. The privacy policy sets out exactly what that check stores and for how long.
Acceptable use
You may not use PhoneRig, or any address we provide, to host, share, or distribute:
- content that is illegal where you live or where you serve it;
- child sexual abuse material of any kind - zero tolerance: we permanently terminate the address service involved and report to the relevant authorities;
- intimate imagery of a person without their consent;
- malware, phishing pages, or anything designed to defraud or deceive;
- spam or unsolicited bulk messaging infrastructure;
- content that infringes someone else's copyright, trademark, or other rights;
- credible threats, incitement to violence, or targeted harassment.
This applies to every way PhoneRig can serve content: the site builder, one-tap apps, file sharing, and anything else reachable through an address we route. Traffic we route also passes through Cloudflare and must comply with Cloudflare's own service terms.
Enforcement
If content served through an address we provide appears to violate these terms, we may suspend or permanently disable that address without prior notice. Where the law requires it, we report unlawful content to the authorities. We act on reports rather than surveillance - see below.
Reporting abuse
To report content served through a phonerig.app address, email
support@phonerig.app with the address and a
short description of the problem. You do not need to identify yourself to report.
Copyright complaints
If you believe an address we route serves material that infringes your copyright, email support@phonerig.app with the exact address, a description of the work infringed, and a statement that you own or represent the rights. We may disable routing to the material or the address while we look into it.
Your own domain, your own accounts
If you bring your own Cloudflare account or connect your own domain, that setup is governed by your agreements with those providers, and keeping it compliant is your responsibility. These acceptable-use rules still apply to the PhoneRig app itself.
Purchases
Paid unlocks and subscriptions are processed by Google Play Billing under Google Play's terms, including its refund policy. Entitlements are tied to your Google Play account. We never see your card or payment details.
No guarantees
PhoneRig and the address service are provided as is. Your server runs on your own phone, on your own network and power - we cannot and do not promise uptime or fitness for any particular purpose. We may change, suspend, or discontinue the address service. The app includes open-source components under their own licenses - see Licenses.
Limits on liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law: we are not liable for content hosted by users, for lost data, lost profits, or indirect or consequential damages; and our total liability for anything arising from PhoneRig is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
If your use causes us trouble
If what you host, or how you use the service, leads to claims against us from someone else, you agree to cover the costs and damages that result.
Age
PhoneRig is not directed to children under 13, and you must meet Google Play's age requirements to make purchases.
Ending things
You can stop using PhoneRig at any time; uninstalling removes all on-device data, and inactive address records are deleted automatically (see the privacy policy). We can terminate or suspend the address service for violations of these terms.
Changes
We may update these terms; material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above. Continuing to use the app or address service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
